Back to the Real World!!

Well, summer has come and gone. I really enjoyed the time off and being at home. I'm so glad that I decided to make the change into teaching. The extra time off and schedule is just icing on the cake. I started back to work on Monday and into the third grade. So far...so great!! I am enjoying my team tremendously and am looking forward to this year.

I will have to say that I "learned my lesson" this summer. For those of you who read Leslie's blog, she mentioned that this was the first summer that she let the house and other things go. Well, we had an AWESOME summer and did a lot of fun things, but I definetly worried about the house way too much. Well, I guess we all have to go through it....especially for a clean freak like myself. I could dig myself in a hole cleaning. About two weeks ago, I realized my summer was almost over and that "list" was still in my planner with nothing crossed off. I went into panic mode. I told Brad I was going to start staying up really late working on it....painting baseboards, painting the utility room, etc. He just rolled his eyes. :-) The next day I was reflecting and realized that all my "cleaning" this summer didn't add up to anything. All it was was everyday picking up and cleaning nothing major was accomplished. Well, I decided not to beat myself up about it anymore. I took a nap that day. (Brad about had a heartattack.) You see, I don't do naps. Mom & Leslie will tell you that. Naps are for sissies and I make sure to tell them since they both love naps. :-) I'd rather be tired. Well.....I'm trying to change. I am working on a mental schedule for my year to come. One that puts all the irrelevant things on the back burner. Let's see....one afternoon at the park with Drew, only one afternoon staying really late at school (I'm gonna try), one afternoon to visit relatives and friends.....you get the idea. And of course, one evening to really clean. You can just kill yourself if you pick up after your children all day every day. I guess those of you who stay at home full-time learned that really quick.

Drew is growing up so fast and other important people/things take a back burner to everday life sometimes. That is what really matters not a tidy house all the time. As crazy as it sounds, that was my life lesson this summer. Hopefully, I've learned from it and will not soon forget.

You have great perspective! You'll never look back and say "I wish I would've cleaned my house more." I'm glad to hear 3rd grade is going well. Good luck this school year!

A clean house...who needs it??? Mine never is and I am home all day. I guess I have learned to just let it go, that it really does not matter. I never really understood how people who worked kept their house clean, but then I realized they spend less time in the house to make it dirty. Being home all day sure messes it up fast! But, oh well!(sure glad Martha Stewart does not do random checks!!)
So glad that you are going to try and do a new schedule with the new year. Maybe we can pencil in one day every couple of weeks for "us"!
I am so glad that you are having such a great experience so far with the third grade team! You are an amazing person and will do well at anything you do!

love you!

I can only imagine what a week at the beach with all 3 boys would be...get a bottom floor, so many little feet pitter-patter is a killer stress when there are others above you. So we will both be 3rd grade teachers this year. I might be calling you for hints. That little guy and his one boot is worth a dusty baseboard...enjoy the journey.

I'm glad you are right there with me. I am excited about your new year and can't wait to come and spend the day in your classroom one day, and visa versa. Apparently, I have an ADHD class, so it should be fun! Party on...
love you
