Dad's Surgery

Update: Dad is up, out of ICU, and in his own room. The first time I talked to him all he could say was he was hurting. This time, I talked to Mom first and I heard him in the background flirting so I knew he was feeling better. He had a good shot of morphine. The nurses said he should be out of there in 48 hours and the rate he is progressing! Yeah!

For those of you that didn't know, Dad had his surgery today. Mom just called me and said that they just finished. Dr. Bott had to put in 3 plates and 40 screws. He will be out for a while and they haven't been back to see him yet. Mom promises a picture when they do. One praise report is that they didn't have to cut his sternum back open. Dr. Bott felt sure before he took him to surgery and even prepared Dad for cutting the sternum, but God worked it out. He even removed a hernia while in there.

Why am I blogging at home while Dad is in the hospital? Well, my boys are sick. WE had an eventful afternoon/evening yesterday. Yes, Deardre said Drew started with diarrhea yesterday afternoon. He acted fine, but we didn't get far from the changing table. Brad was just going to stay home with him today while I went to Orlando. In the meantime, Deardre called. Robert rode his bike to the eye doctor (near Publix) and couldn't make it home because his back hurt so bad. Deardre wanted Brad to go get him because she had been vomiting the last little bit. Brent ended up taking Robert to the emergency room and he is on steroids and pain killers. (Robert has a history of back problems.) Then, about midnight I woke up to Brad vomiting. I laid in bed most of the night worried that I wouldn't be there for Dad's surgery. All these thoughts were going through my head. You know how that goes. My alarm went off at 4 am. I found Brad in the living room still sick so I knew my place was at home today. Poor baby. So, here I am taking care of my boys today. They both are asleep right now and the vomiting has stopped. Praise God! I am praying I don't get it.

I can't stand not being there with my Mom, Dad, and Leslie today, but God worked everything out and I am most thankful. Thank you for all the prayers.

I know it was hard for you to be here while your Dad was having surgery. But, you know your Dad would want you to take care of your family.
I am so happy they did not have to cut his sternum!! Hopefully that will make his recovery easier!!
Keep me posted!

I am SO very happy to hear this good news! Yay! Now, I'll be praying for a very fast and easy recovery! You're such a wonderful daughter! :) How sad that so many people around you are sick! You'd better be taking some Vitamin C, huh?
